Looking for an Irish name for a baby boy...?

I am having a baby boy in August. My husband and I want to give him an Irish name that goes well with the last name Mullins. We have one son already and his name is Devan. Thank you for your suggestions in advance.

Looking for an Irish name for a baby boy...?
Hi, well considering the choices and requirements I would call him Ga茅l. The name, spelled this way in Galicia, and acording to the epics of the north iberian Celts, was the name of one of the the mythical heroes of the Gaelic Celts much as Herman (in spanish Germ谩n) was a mythical heroe of the Germans. It is a beautiful name and I only know one boy in Galicia named that way. So definetly if I had to choose using your criteria I would name him:

Ga茅l

PS: The name Ga茅l, Ga毛l, Gaelle,or Glas according to the Invasions Book* or Libro de las Invasiones, is the epomym name of a mythical ancestor of the ga茅lic, :

Fenius Farsaid fathered Nel father of Gael or Glas

*Leabhar ghabhala or Libro de las Invasiones, Ram贸n Sainero. Ediciones Akal 1988 ISBN es: 84-7600-276-9

My suggestion would to watch either the Irish TV series "Ballykissangel" (yes it's one word) it might be spelt with an "ey" though. Or rent the movie "The Quiet Man." Those will give you a very wide spectrum of Irish names, in the native Irish brogue. LOL
Reply:Aidan = little fire

Declan = full of goodness

Patrick = noble man

Pierce = rock
Reply:Why not some real Irish names, not some Anglo-Irishy mix?

Conn, Br铆n, Caoimh铆n, Colm, Cillian, Ciar谩n, 脡anna, Fionn, Liam, Ruaidhr铆, Tadhg. There are loads more.

Pick up a mythology book and give him the name of an Irish warrior/ hero. :-)

And if you do choose Se谩n make sure the accent is over the 'a'.

Se谩n = Irish form of John

sean = Irish word for 'old'

and Shawn and Shaun are just pure out. Horrible bast**dism of the Irish language. :-s
Reply:hese are my favorite names

Reply:I vote for old school...Perhaps Patrick Bryan. Noble AND kingly, how about that for a combo?

My kids are Dennis Patrick and Kevin Michael, so I obviously like old school (Irish) names. With a last name that starts O'...people kind of figure out your heritage quickly anyway!

Now, our next one might be Declan, after our friend Declan Mullin. Not the same spelling as your last name but sure does roll off the tounge. And even with all the D's...Devan and Declan? Sounds like a couple of wonderful, bright little troublemakers! ;-)

Reply:Everyone suggested some good names. Most baby name sites have a section on Irish names. This is one I especially like because it has sound bites of the famous author Frank McCourt saying the names they way they are supposed to be pronounced and he gives a little description on the meaning/background of the name. I think it comes in handy as sometimes Irish names are not always pronounced as they are spelled.
Reply:OH Stay away from Connor and Ayden because I know like 10 families alone that have used those names and if you want something different yet meaningful then read on...

I come from a long long line of Irish family. Last name is Ryan from Limerick.

1. My first son is Eamonn (pronouced Aymun). The president of Ireland and various other historical figures named this. No one and I mean no one (other than in Ireland) is using this name frequently although it is different, it has history and it holds it's meaning well. It isn't something trendy or something made up. It has history and foundation. And it is a mans name - not to be confused with a girls name.

2. Conlan (we call him Con-Quinn) is my second son. It means intelligent hero. It is Irish and has a good history too. And it is a mans name - not to be confused with a girls name.

3. Malcolm is my third son. EVERYONE loves this name and thinks it is very cute but yet strong. I know this name is going to get popular....if you can get over the Malcolm X syndrome.

Watch out for names that are for girls and boys - too trendy.
