What do you think of this Irish Girls Name?

Sadbh (pronounced Sieve)

It's my sister's middle name

What do you think of this Irish Girls Name?
I like it, I know a few girls with that name.

I can see why non-Irish people would have difficulty pronouncing it though.

Non-irish people usually have trouble with Irish names because they use English pronunciations.

Like they pronounce C谩itlin like katelyn when it should be cawt-lin.
Reply:I LOVE Irish names...the only trouble (as I'm sure you're aware of) is that the majority of North American citizens (who are not Irish) don't generally know how to pronounce these names...which is understandable... the pronounciation is so different from the spelling...so you run the risk of your child never hearing her name properly said by her peers or others.

But personally -- like I said, I love Irish names...I think they sound poetic %26amp; original. It's a toss up.
Reply:I am of Irish heritage myself and love Irish names, but this may be a bit of a challenge for the child-to-be. I would think it would be frsutrating to have a name no one can ever spell or pronounce, not to mention it will be difficult for the child to learn to write herself. But the bottom line is, if you love it and want to honor your sister in this way, then go for it - just be prepared for the small challenges that come with having an unusual name like this one.
Reply:Personally, I don't really like it because I wouldn't know how to pronounce it. If you are in Ireland though and most people would know how to pronounce it then you might want to use it. I think that Siobhan is a really pretty name, but I didn't like it for a long time because I didn't know how to pronounce it. I wouldn't use it either because where I live I think most people wouldn't know how to pronounce it if they saw it or if they heard it they would spell it wrong. Just my opinion.
Reply:I twould probably be complicated for the child, learning it, saying it, and she may be made fun of my other children. Also, teachers will definetly have a tough time pronouncing that. Friends too. Its a good name and all, it just may lead to mimmicking and problems.
Reply:I don't know how the heck you get that pronunciation from that spelling. I would not use this as a first name or you doom your child to a life of telling every single person she comes in contact with how to pronounce her name.
Reply:Its great

dont worry about the pronounciation because

a lot of names are hard to pronounce

in america or other countries

almost everyone has a cool name

and you usually introduce yourself verbally

except at school where teachers say everyones name wrong
Reply:That's awesome!! But people here (outside of Ireland) would struggle to pronounce and spell it.
Reply:Outside of Ireland you're likely to encounter pronunciation and spelling problems. It is lovely though
Reply:To be honest, i've never really liked it that much but it's growing on me
Reply:thats a very awesome name!!
Reply:when you look at that I would have never guessed that is how you pronounce this.

Honestly I dont care for it at all.
Reply:love it, but people would struggle to pronounce it here.
