Does anyone know if the last name "Kell" is of Irish decendant?

I'm trying to research my family

Does anyone know if the last name "Kell" is of Irish decendant?
Kell is a location in Ireland. Note, forex, the famous Book of Kells. So the name is almost certainly an indication of ancestry stemming to that location.

A lot of Irish names have gotten mangled by Anglo Saxon mispronunciation and misspelling.
Reply:It's most likely Irish but could possibly be Scottish (there was a lot of migration between Scotland and Ireland and the same groups sometimes settled in both areas) or a shortened version of some other Northern European name.
Reply:I think Kelly is, pretty darn sure it is.
Reply:I dated a girl a long time ago with the last name kell, I think it was more scottish. Well half scottish, half crazy.
Reply:kell is either swedish, or norwegian
