I was wondering the origin and meaning of the male name Angus, is it Irish or Scottish? And is it usually the Irish people that have this name?

Reply:Angus was an Irish god, so it's originally an Irish name, but you have to remember that Scotland was settled by the Irish, so the name is very popular in Scotland as well (probably more so).





It was #70 in 2007 in Scotland, so you can see it's a fairly common name there.

Reply:Well i live in Scotland and it is a common name where i am from. Angus is also a region in Scotland. All the guys named Angus i have been really big and strong guys, so if you're hoping your son will grow up to be a sportsman id recommend it.
