Eilidh, pronounced 'I - lee' is the Scottish Gaelic version of the name Helen, the Irish version of Helen is 'L茅an' pronounced 'Lay-an'
Eilidh...Is this an Irish name and how do you pronounce it?
Yes. It's actually a Scottish and Irish gaelic name. It is pronounced ay-lee or ay-lay (rhymes with bailley). In the same way the Scottish/Irish word for a dance (Scottish/Irish equivalent of a barn dance) is ceilidh - pronounced kaylay.
Reply:I don't know if there's an Irish version of the name, but it's certainly quite common in Scottish Gaelic, where it's pronounced 'Ayli',but with less emphasis on the 'ay' sound than you would use in English.
Reply:I believe this name is pronounced ay-lee. I'm Irish, but I haven't heard this name a lot, it's very uncommon and i would say that it is an old gaelic name.
Reply:hi
we have an Eilidh, who was born in Scotland, its pronounced ay-ley, but there's many ways of pronouncing and spelling lots of names
