What is typical of an Irish name? How do you tell if it is Irish?

Cameron, but then again I know a Scottish girl whose last name is Cameron. Scotland, Ireland, and England usually share the same names. You can usually tell if a name is Irish once you're familiar with people of Irish descent. Nearly all of the staff at my old school were Irish and would talk about Ireland sometimes. It was interesting.

starts with Mc half of them
Reply:See my name on here?

THAT'S an Irish name lol.

Although some people confuse it with Scottish.
Reply:Anything with an O' or Mc in the first part of it. (i.e. McDaniel or O'Donnell)
Reply:anything with 0' in the beginning
Reply:It's hard to say "what's typical", its like saying, "what's typical of an English name?".

If its in Gaelic, it's an Irish name (thats how you tell), with the exception of the modernized ones.
Reply:Irish sir names sometimes start with O', which means son of.

Scotch Irish names start with Mc, also meaning son of.

Then there are the Irish sir names that are gaelic, such as:

Kenny - Morgan - Connolly - Barry - Conner - Brennen - Neil - Woods -

Reilly - etc.

P.S. The Scottish Highlander's sir names normally begin with "Mac"

The Sottish Lowlander's sir name normally begin with

"Mc".

The Scotch Irish are very Irish, they just came from the Low Lands of Scotland..

By the way....the original Scots, Irish and Welsh are all the same people...Celts.

We have a wonderful heritage, one to be proud of.....
