What do you think of the irish name Seamus, shay-muss, stands for james?

there are already great grandad, grandad, uncle, and cousin named james. and grandad uncle and cousin all live together so i thought james was too much. my husband is a stuart so i was also thinking mabey shaun?

What do you think of the irish name Seamus, shay-muss, stands for james?
I love the name Seamus, but was not allowed to name my son that, because his daddy has a dog named Shaymus when he was younger. We went with Eian, keeping with the Irish roots.

The only drawback for Seamus is that many people (at least where I am, in middle America) will probably mis-pronounce it. But then again, with the popularity of Harry Potter (in which one of the classmates is named Seamus Finnegan), many of the children he would go to school with would recognize it.

If you go with Shaun, I'd spell it 'Sean' or 'Shawn' because I just don't like the way it looks with the 'au' in there, but that's just a weird me thing.
Reply:Just name the kid James!! Those names could possibly have your kid grow up and hate u!!
Reply:i do think seamus is cute. my name is shaye so i am a little biased. lol

is that the only spelling on the name? it is my only concern. i have a feeling he may be teased quite a bit. not only calling him C-Muss but semen too. kids can be cruel!

overall cute name though.
Reply:I LOVE THE NAME IT'S GREAT MY NAME IS SHANNON SO AS YOU KNOW IT IS AN IRISH NAME THATS GREAT TO KEEP UP THE IRISH NAME IN FAMILY..
Reply:i like this name it was considered for my little boy but we settled on Conor Sean. a good ole' irish name! lol

i think Seamus is a nice name and i also like it shortened to Shea.
Reply:I like Seamus better than Sean.

Reply:Seamus is the Gaelic name for James. I have a nephew named Seamus. I think that it is a fabulous name. Good luck.
Reply:i like them we were thinking of naming our next baby if a boy those names but we decided on Hamish the Scottish version of James as my husbands dad is a Scot, and my hubby's name is James my sons name is jack buster James, so yeah they are really cool.
Reply:Shaun is good.It seems like there is enough James in your family.
Reply:Great name!
Reply:I love shaymuss it sounds great I can't get over how awesome that sounds! I never would've thought of that name but I like it.Good luck!
Reply:I love the name Seamus - was my dad's nickname (he was a James obviously).

Reply:i would go with shaun
Reply:it's a nice name! and it's Irish!! ^-^ however, if you want the celtic spelling for shaun, it's sean. good luck to you!!!
Reply:No not my style.
Reply:i like shaun
Reply:I love the name, but you also have to think of the teasing factor.

Seamus also sounds like "shame us." A friend of mine played a comedy character named Seamus O'Lord.
Reply:I like Seamus and I like Shaun but I like the Irish form spelled Sean. That is my sons name.
Reply:Hmm. Too many substitute teachers will mispronounce this name and he will get made fun of. Sorry, just my opinion! But, by all means, name him whatever you want.

Good luck,

Keesha.
Reply:I love it!! It's unique, but not stupid.. Mabey is not one of my favorites.. Good luck to you
Reply:I like Shaun personally- it means confident
Reply:I love Seamus, and with that spelling. Shawn/Sean/Shaun is so commom. Although, if I went with that I would spell it Sean. The other spellings are not authentic. Seamus may also get the nickname "Shea" which I also love. What a strong, masculine name with such character!
Reply:Seamus is SO Irish! Very cool. He could go by "Shay" for a nickname.
Reply:I love Seamus, its different without being silly, stuart is a bit too old sounding
