My maiden name is Starkey ( irish descent) do I have any relatives out there?
My last name is Starkey as well, it is my maiden name, my father's name. I would have to ask around to see where our family tree ties in to our name. My dad always said we were of Irish descent, my brothers, sister and I have Irish names. Hope this helps. Report Abuse
Reply:I am sure you have relatives out there. Just two things to keep in mind...
you are RELATED TO persons on mom's side, meaning.. she is not a Starkey. She has a different maiden name (and her mother, grandmother, all have different names). People don't stop being related by changing a name.
Point two-
Everyone with the same last name is NOT GUARANTEED to be related. Yes, I know, common concept, but wrong wrong wrong. No, names did not come from one "original" Starkey and all Starkeys are descended. That would be like saying all Smiths are related.
Just a fact to open up to. A surname is not genealogy.
You are related to each of your parents. You are related to each of your grandparents (and to their children/grandchildren). You are related to each GREAT grandparent (and their families).
If you work back from yourself, one step at a time, the ones who are related will fall into place.
Just to help out.. if you start tracing your ancestors.. you WILL FIND that a last name is a completely distinct topic and often has nothing to do with being related.
Really. Trust me on this one.
Reply:Ringo Star (real name Richard Starkey), drummer of The Beatles.
Reply:I don't know dear, but if you find you're related to Ringo, please ask him to return my calls.
