What do you think about the Irish names Broghan and Teirghan for twin boys?

What do you think about the Irish names Broghan and Teirghan for twin boys? We are both Irish and would like our children's names to reflect our heritage.

What do you think about the Irish names Broghan and Teirghan for twin boys?
COOL !! I love those names !! Don't worry about people making fun of them their Irish and there is two of them !! They will stick up for each other !! Being Irish you know what happens to idiots who try and do anything to you !! Nobody tougher than the Irish except maybe the Scottish !! HA!HA!
Reply:Why don't you give them some decent real Irish first names? Examples would be:

Cillian, Colm, Aodh, Conn, Eoghan, Fiachra, Fionn, Ois铆n, Tadhg.....

Those are real decent names that will properly reflect their heritage not some Anglo-Irish letter-soup. Report Abuse

Reply:I say you should think VERY carefully about this first! One, pronunciation issues. Teachers, peers, etc. On that note, recall what it was like when YOU were in grade school, and kids who made fun of some other child's name. I personally know someone that had the last name Fish and named their 1st son Landon...you see where this is going? I'm not saying you are going to do anything like that, but just think of these factors carefully before selecting a name for your children. Perhaps if you lived IN Ireland it would be OK, but depending on where you live and how culturally diverse your area is, should depend on how much heritage you branch off to your children. My opinion: either find other Irish names that aren't so strongly Irish, or find other ways to "reflect your heritage."
Reply:Love them !! What middle names are you using?

Congrat's X2 and Good-Luck :)
Reply:i think they are authentic and interesting... but they would get teased terribly... and i dont think thats fair...
Reply:I love both the Names...They are soo Cute...My Aunt is Pregnat and wanna name there kid Broghan if they have a boy...They are also Irish and I love that name...So Cute!!
Reply:They would be great... if you live in Kerry, Cork, or Dublin. In the US? Your babies would be constantly battling bullies and others who don't understand the culture behind the name. They will also be constantly explaining how these names are pronounced: is it "TEER-gann" or "Ter-HANN" or "BRO-gann or "BRONE" or "BRO-hann"?? And let's not even get into the spelling!

I recommend "Celtic Names for Children" which you can get at Amazon.com. The link is http://www.amazon.com/Celtic-Names-Child...

You can find names that have Celtic or Gaelic in origin that are a little more mainstream USA in there.

Reply:Awesome names! Luck of the Irish to you all!
Reply:They will get made fun of.
Reply:Not good. The average American person would not be able to easily pronounce or spell either name. If you like the way they sound, perhaps change the spelling to make it easier to pronounce. Even though I was born in America, I have a foreign first name, and it takes some people a year to remember it.
Reply:I'm not Irish, but I'm very fond of the heritage and history. I like those names alot actually. I like how you want to base your children's names from your heritage.
Reply:WONDERFUL! The only alternative I could say is name one Ossain...I just love how it sounds..and it is truly Irish.
