I've seen conflicting accounts: some say it's Irish, some Scottish.
Is it rooted in Irish Gaelic or Scottish Gaelic?
Even if it's not a traditional Irish name, is it popular in Ireland?
Is it more associated with Catholics or Protestants?
Is "Callum" an Irish name?
It originally is, but it's not really any more. It's annoyingly popular in England (Callum in England is like Aiden in the US) and gaining in popularity in America. Meanwhile, it's rapidly losing popularity in its native Ireland.
Reply:Callum is Gaelic, it means Dove. It is popular in the UK but rare in the USA. Personally, I know more Irish men called Callum than Scottish - but that doesn't mean anything! The name is popular in Australia and there is a strong Irish/Roman Catholic background here.
On this website the name seems more Scottish

and the meaning is 'Bald Dove'!!
Reply:Callum I beleive is Irish Gaelic. It means dove. Popular in United Kingdom not in USA though.
