It's a genealogy site and also means "oak grove"... is it pronounced just like "Derry" or is there some Irish language subtlety that I'm missing?
How is the word/place name "Doire" pronounced in Irish?
It's like 'Dirr -eh'.
Reply:Like the others said, it's dirr-uh, but the D is pronounced like the "th" in "the".
Reply:derry is fine.
Reply:"Dir - ruh" is how I pronounce it in my Wexford accent.
